Measuring homebuildings contribution to GDP Housing contributes to GDP through residential fixed investment (residential construction) and personal consumption expenditure (housing services). Residential fixed investment (or RFI) is the measure of homebuilding and remodelings contribution to GDP. These investments include the construction of new single-family and multi-family structures, residential remodeling, the production of manufactured homes, and brokers fees. Onthe other hand, housing services includes gross rents paid and owners earnedrent plus utility payments.
