I Thought
I Saw a Tweety BirdI Did! I Did! You're Suspended
Eleven-year-old Ashley Smith was suspended from her
middle school in Georgia when school officials spotted a small chain
that connected her Tweety Bird key ring and wallet. The school has a
"zero-tolerance" policy barring students from carrying any sort of weapon,
and school officials decided the chain was a potential weapon. The American
Civil Liberties Union succeeded in getting Ashley back into school.
It is now trying to get the school district to write a more realistic
weapons policy.
