“I Thought I Saw a Tweety Bird—I Did! I Did!” You're Suspended
Eleven-year-old Ashley Smith was suspended from her middle school in Georgia when school officials spotted a small chain that connected her Tweety Bird key ring and wallet. The school has a "zero-tolerance" policy barring students from carrying any sort of weapon, and school officials decided the chain was a potential weapon. The American Civil Liberties Union succeeded in getting Ashley back into school. It is now trying to get the school district to write a more realistic weapons policy.
